Dr Victoria Showunmi is an academic that has been working in the field of gender, race, class and identity in the context of education. Her research interests include gender and leadership, teacher education and mentoring and coaching. Much of her recent research focuses on black women’s and black girls’ wellbeing.
She is regularly invited to speak in public about her research. In July 2013 she was invited to present her research findings to an audience of over 300 people at the House Commons, the speech was chaired by Diane Abbott MP. In addition, she was invited to Chair an interactive discussion with Oona king, (previously MP) which was held at Nottingham City Council in the presence of the First Black Lord Mayor of the city.
